SLIGHT Sasuke x Sakura
ONE SHOT

The cold wind, brisk from the freezing temperatures of the December night fluttered through the trees in the silent village. Not a sound could be heard, no whispers were spoken, nothing. The heavy drizzle Konoha was receiving muffled even the cries at the funeral.

Hope dangles on a string
Like slow spinning redemption
Winding in and winding out
The shine of it has caught my eye

Only a few people had show up – Tsunade, Sai, Kakashi, Jiraya, the rookie nine, and Might Guy’s team. That as all that was needed to remember their fallen childhood friend. The sole purpose for the good part of the village. Their savior, their light.
They were at Naruto Uzumaki’s funeral.

And roped me in
So, mesmerizing, and so hypnotizing,
I am captivated, I am

Sakura Haruno, age 18, stood in front of the crowd, along with her rescued teammate, Sasuke Uchiha. Surprisingly, the stonic young man had shown up. A few months prior to the funeral, Sakura and Naruto successfully rescued him, on what would be one of his last missions of his life.
The rain increased as the funeral proceeded. With no umbrellas for most of them, the crowd was soaked in a matter of minutes. Tsunade, the 5th hokage, stood beside Sakura, stealing unseen glances at her student. Not a tear fell from either of their faces. The shock was just to overbearing for them to come to terms of what happened. Sighing, Tsunade proceeded to walk to the podium the was located behind the closed casket of their fallen friend.
Sasuke looked around at the crowd behind him. The few who came, about all their heads were bowed, and he recognized Ino, Hinata, and TenTen crying together silently besides the Hyuuga and Rock Lee. Sighing silently to himself, he looked to his right over at Sakura, and was surprised to see her smiling as her teacher adjusted herself on the podium.

I am selfish
I am wrong
I am right
I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed, but I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself

“Today, we are gathered here to remember Naruto Uzumaki. Son of Kushina Uzumaki and Minato Kamikaze, the fourth Hokage. A fallen hero, a fallen friend, and someone with a greater determination then anyone I have ever met in my life…”
The speech went on for another 20 minutes. During the time, Sakura smiled at her teacher, the crowd looked up occasionally, and the rain seemed to clear a bit, a ray of sunshine peeking from the clouds about a foot away from the casket.

So clear
Like the diamond in your ring
Cut to mirror your intention
Oversized and overwhelmed
The shine of which has caught my eye
And rendered me
So isolated, and so motivated
I am certain now that I am

When Tsuande’s speech was over, she walked off the podium and proceeded to the casket. Sighing a audible sigh, she looked up into the sky, light rain pattering on her face as she closed her eyes. After a few moments, she looked down at the casket, and placing a hand gingerly on it, as if it would shatter undernaeth her, she turned her body to the crowd.
“Long live Naruto Uzumaki. A teammate, a friend, the 6th hokage.”

So turn
up the corners of your lips
Part them and feel my fingertips
Trace the moment fall forever

Defense is paper-thin
Just one touch and I'll be in
Too deep now to ever swim against the current
So let me slip away
So let me slip away

Everyone bowed. That’s when Sakura began to cry for the first time since they brought Sasuke home a few months ago.
“I’m going to become hokage, dattebayo!”
“Just you wait, I’m going to be hokage!”
A small smile appeared on her lips as she cried silently to herself, reminiscing over the teammate who had only one goal in mind, and in time, grew into a beautiful, respectable, loved young man. He still talked about becoming hokage like he did when they were 12, but when he came back with Jiraya around a year ago, he just seemed different to her.
Gone was the arrogance he had, that stupid catchphrase. He came back a more mature, loving, and better young person than anyone ever hoped he would be.
But God he could still be annoying.
“Sakura.” Sasuke said in a whisper to her, looking over, still bowed, to her free falling tears. She looked at him, the smile gone. He never hardly spoke to her when he got back, not since she was the one to tell him at the hospital that the ANBU member Sai had replaced him while he was gone. The REALLY pissed him off that day, but being Uchiha Sasuke, he never showed it.

So let me slip away
So let me slip against the current
So let me slip away
So let me slip away

“yeah?” She asked shakily. No matter how long she denied it, she still loved the man. Gone were the days when she would wait for him every waking hour. Now, when they trained, she would spar with him and it wouldn’t last a mere few moments with him like it had when they were 12. Now, it lasted on for hours and hours, and when both were spent, one of them defeated, or just to tired to continue, they would walk back with Sai and Naruto back to Kakashi to train some more.
“Don’t cry. Do you think Naruto would want to see you cry like that?”
“….no.”
He had a point. The Naruto they knew wouldn’t want this, a huge crowd crying over him when he passed. He would want a party with his favorite food – ramen. He’d want to see Sakura happy, Sasuke being less-Sasuke like, Kakashi to stop reading porn and be on time, and Sai to stop having obsessions with penises, particularly his.
So, with that in mind, Sakura stood up and left the ceremony. Sasuke, upon seeing her torso straighten, turned his head around and watched her walk off, immediately following her. Everyone was shocked, as a gasp and murmurs could be heard from the crowd as all eyes snapped up and watched her leave.
Tsunade though, still standing besides the casket, smiled.
Several people called out to the two retreating figures, saying they should come back and what disrespect they had.
However, they just walked along to the memorial stone to where it all began.
The start of a team.
Start of love.
Start of friendship.
Start of something so challenging, nerve-wracking, and heart stopping that it would test their very faith in themselves and their lives.
The start of life.

So let me slip away
So let me slip away

“Sakura. Why are we here?” Sasuke asked as he looked around the familiar place. Sakura bent down, after picking up the stone and nail laying besides the tomb. Carving NARUTO UZUMAKI underneath his fathers’ name, she brushed off the stone ash on the tomb, and smiled a small smile and kissed the spot where his name was graved.
“Rest in peace” she whispered to herself, tears falling from her face.
“Hey Sasuke, do you want to get something to eat?” She asked as she stood up, looking at her teammate, his black hair stuck to his face from the rain, slightly covering his eyes. He looked at her, and slowly a small smirk appeared on his face.
“I’m in the mood for ramen.” He said as he began to walk off down the path into town. Sakura smiled as she followed her teammate down the path to Ichiraku.

Slight hope
dangles on a string
Like slow spinning redemption...

It wasn’t much, but in time they would grow together. They would love. They would fight. They would remember the one person who brought them together for the rest of their lives, Naruto Uzumaki.
When they had children together, they would tell the story over the greatest experience of their life, starting when they were 12 back in the academy.

Finis

EDIT: wow that looks a HELL OF A LOTT BETTER on word and FF.NET. :(
